The Valley Hive is buzzing with excitement for our 2026 Annual Fundraiser - Honey Competition & Dessert Contest!
This year, our event will be held at the Woodland Hills Country Club. We hope you will join us for a special evening featuring:
Delicious homemade honey desserts
A guided honey tasting by a California Master Beekeeper with a flight of honey to take home
Tasting of honey from beekeepers in the Los Angeles Area
Tri-tip & salmon dinner
Live & silent auction
Announcement of the 2026 Honey Competition & Honey Dessert Contest winners!
Funds raised during this event will be donated to Share The Buzz.
Admission is $95 per person.
Taste Honey From Local Backyard Beekeepers
A single honeybee will produce about 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in her lifetime. Honeybees visit approximately 2 million flowers to make 1 pound of honey.
Last year over 50 beekeepers submitted their honey to The Valley Hive's annual honey competition, and every honey entry tasted different. Attend our fundraising event to see how many entries there are this year and find out who has the best tasting honey in 2026. You will even have a chance to taste and see if you agree with the judges.
Thank you to Los Angeles County Beekeeper's Association for donating prize money for 1st place winner ($150), 2nd place winner ($100), & 3rd place winner ($50)
If you are a backyard beekeeper and would like to submit your honey, here is the info you need to submit.
Submission Details & Deadlines:
Honey needs to be submitted to The Valley Hive (10538 Topanga Canyon Blvd, Chatsworth, CA 91311) no later than 5pm on Saturday October 31, 2026.
- One submission per person.
- Honey must be liquid at the time of submission
- Submit two 8oz jars of honey (one with a label, one without a label)
- Nothing should be added to the honey (100% pure honey)
- Winners will be announced the evening of the fundraising event. You do not need to attend to win. Winners will be notified by Nov. 15, 2026.

Calling All Bakers!
Show off your skills and favorite honey dessert, by entering The Valley Hive's Annual Dessert Contest. Baking with honey is challenging, but extremely rewarding (and delicious) when done right.
Submission Details & Deadlines:
Your honey dessert must be brought to The Woodland Hills Country Club (21150 Dumetz Rd., Woodland Hills) at 3pm on Sunday November 8th.
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Winners will receive a gift card to The Valley Hive plus bragging rights, which is the ultimate prize.

Please note: If you have participated in the past, there have been changes to the staging, judging, and consumption of honey desserts. Please read below and if you have additional questions, please ask our staff.
- Your dessert must contain honey.
- Please make at least 50 bite-sized servings of your honey dessert.
- Your honey dessert must be brought to The Woodland Hills Country Club at 3pm on Sunday November 8th to be judged. Judging begins at 3:15pm so don't be late!
- Your submission should fit on a table space of 2'x2'.
- Items used to submit/display your honey dessert should be disposable as they will not be returned to you.
- You will be dropping off your submission with our staff at The Woodland Hills Country Club. You will not have the opportunity to set up or add anything to your submission at drop off.
- Honey desserts must be safe to consume after sitting at room temperature until 5pm on the day of submission (submissions that require freezing, cooling, or heating will not be accepted).
- Winners will be announced the evening of the fundraising event. You do not need to attend to win. Winners will be notified by Nov. 15, 2026.

Fun Sightseeing Flight and Lunch for Three in a Cessna 182
Join us for a memorable day of flying, sightseeing, and great food aboard a Cessna 182. Your pilot, Scott Mueller, is a highly skilled and experienced aviator with over 45 years of flying experience, including 30 years as an airline pilot. You can relax and enjoy the journey knowing you are flying with a seasoned professional who has spent a lifetime in aviation.
We’ll depart from Oxnard Airport and head north along the beautiful California coastline, taking in spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Barbara coast. From there, we’ll turn inland, flying past Lake Cachuma and over the rolling hills and beautiful vineyards of the Central Coast before arriving in San Luis Obispo.
After landing, we’ll enjoy a relaxing lunch at the Spirit of San Luis Restaurant, located at the San Luis Obispo Airport.
Following lunch, we’ll climb back aboard the Cessna 182 for the return flight to Oxnard, with plenty of opportunities for sightseeing detours and spectacular views along the way.

The “Staging Yard” is a place where the beekeeper makes decisions about which hives will go to the almonds, and which are not strong enough to endure the long journey and often stressful conditions. This painting is from a location in the central coastal California area.
Ruth Askren is an artist whose paintings are about places in nature, and places where people shelter against nature. Her plein air and studio landscapes reflect a Southern Californian sense of space, and its radiance, color, and stillness. It is this magnetic pull towards the land and the life it sustains that fuels her vision. A local graduate of Art Center College of Design, Ruth’s paintings can be found in many collections, public and private across the US.
In 2015, Ruth’s fascination with the natural world led her to beekeeping, eventually expanding this love into a thriving business doing beehive maintenance. She is a mentoring member of the LA County Beekeepers Association. In 2021, Ruth left the business side of beekeeping to pursue her love of painting. She is a member of the Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and the California Art League. Now she’s refocused on her art, continuing to express the intricate relationship between nature and humanity, in paint.
Mead Tasting Experience at your house for up to 10 people
This private mead tasting experience will be a unique experience for your family and friends. Madison Newman of Virago
Brewing, will come to your house to showcase her mead and regale you with the history of mead, the magic and mystery of keeping bees, as she takes you through a tasting flight of mead. In addition to tasting the mead you will also get to taste the honey that was used to produce each batch of mead. This unique experience is curated for up to 10 people.

Taline specializes in detailed fineline illustrative tattooing. She has been tattooing professionally in downtown LA for five years.
She is giving away a full day session of 8+ hours of tattooing worth $800-$1200. You choose the size and the design you'd like tattooed and she will draw it to fit the area of your choosing. She is comfortable drawing any subject matter but is most skilled at drawing bugs, animals, and people.
